Our Nominated Charity
This was the first event of the series, for and on behalf of Baroness Caroline Cox's HART (Humanitarian Aid Relief Trust)
HART is a charitable organisation with a distinctive remit: to provide aid and advocacy for people suffering from oppression and persecution who are not being served by major aid organisations and who are generally ‘off the radar screen’ of the international media.
Major aid organisations can only travel to locations with the permission of sovereign governments. If a government is persecuting its own citizens and does not permit access, they are left to suffer and die – unreached, unhelped, unheard.
HART works with local partners providing life-saving supplies (medical and food aid) for many civilians trapped in war or post-conflict zones, whose governments deny access by major aid organisations.
HART also undertakes advocacy for people trapped behind closed borders, providing ‘a voice for the voiceless’, with local partners on frontlines of freedom in eight different countries.
"When we feel overwhelmed by the enormity of need, we remind ourselves of our motto: I cannot do everything, but I must not do nothing" - Baroness Caroline Cox
