Richard was my housemaster and mentor for five years. His absolute passion for music informed his life, both professional and personal. As an enthusiastic performer in the classical and jazz genres, he had that rare versatile skill of being accomplished in several instruments: the clarinet, trumpet, tuba, euphonium, viola and piano
A deeply committed family man, he was devoted to his wife, four daughters, two adopted sons and fourteen grandchildren
