Save the Children invests in childhood – every day, in times of crisis and for our future. In the UK and around the world - 120 countries in all - they give children a healthy start, the opportunity to learn and protection from harm.

Funds raised during this event contributed to Save the Children’s biggest ever campaign to stop preventable deaths amongst children: No Child Born to Die. Their aim is to save 15 million children’s lives through their programme work and appeals. Since the campaign’s launch in 2011, they have achieved major breakthroughs in the availability of vaccines, family planning and nutrition.

They have seen some remarkable progress in the fight against child mortality in our lifetimes. Since 1990, the number of children dying from preventable causes before they reach their fifth birthday has almost halved, dropping from 12.6 million to 6.3 million. Of course, 6.3 million needless deaths remain a scandal. They have much work to do and Save the Children is at the very forefront.

"We are only able to continue to make this vital change for children with the funds we receive from our generous supporters. I thank you personally, and on behalf of Save the Children, for your support in coming tonight to what I’m certain will be a very special evening that will change the lives of many mothers and their children around the globe."
